Have you, as a teenager, felt resentment towards the thought of growing up? That constant pressure of growing up, choosing a career path, and becoming a full on adult with adult responsibilities gnawing away at your mind. It's clear that Holden Caulfield felt like this. He does not want to grow up. He wants to so badly ignore his responsibilities and problems. He wants to preserve what little of childhood innocence he has left, even reliving childhood memories in the process. I know i've felt this way before as well. As a senior in high school, I am supposed to be looking into colleges, planning my future, and making decisions that may end up affecting my entire life. It's hard. In a few months i'll be 18, an adult, and i'll be expected to act like one. As a Careers in Ed. student, I will be working with over a dozen 3 year old preschoolers. Watching children play, learn new things about themselves and the work, an live carelessly always has me in awe. They are so innocent and joyous that they make me think about my own childhood and how easier things were when I was little. Like Holden, the thought of growing up scares me. I'm sure so many of teenagers my age feel this way as well.
