TGG Alternate Ending: Starting from Ch.7

Daisy’s leaving you.”
“Nonsense.”
“I can’t... I won’t leave Tom for you, Jay. I... don’t love you like that” Daisy said with visible difficulty. At that moment, Gatsby looked as if he saw a ghost. A frozen expression of shock and bewilderment was plastered on his face. He all of a sudden came back into reality and swiped up his keys from the table, knocking down a glass of whiskey as he did. Without looking back at any of our faces, he walked out of the restaurant and from there we then heard the engine of his yellow car roar as he sped away from the scene. Silence lingered between us for a short moment before we eventually grab our belongings and head home. All four of us got into Tom’s vehicle. They would drop me off before heading to the East.
“I can’t believe that bootlegger thought you’d leave me for him. Crazy!” Tom spoke up.
No one replied. The car remained silent for the rest of the journey home.

The next morning, I call Gatsby’s telephone hoping to see how he has been doing since the events of last night took place. No one answered. I walk over to his drive way only to notice the yellow car missing, the curtains of the mansions massive windows blocking light from entering the house, and no signs of anyone being there. That’s how Gatsby’s house remained to this day. Vacant. The last anyone on Long Island has heard from Gatsby was that night Daisy told him he didn’t want to be with him.

Life carried on in the East as if Gatsby never existed.  Jordan and Daisy held brunch together and Tom took a train to NYC every so often to spend time with his mistress. Here in the West, however, nothing felt the same. No parties, no yellow car, no Gatsby. Where he went that night remains a mystery to me today.

  1. I really like your post. This could have been a very good ending for the book, leaving all readers very confused and interested. I loved your wording in your post it matches very well to the real language in the book. Again, I loved your post, it was very interesting and well worded. I would have loved it as the ending of the story.

  2. wow! I really enjoyed this ending. I like how you left the reader with a huge cliffhanger. I enjoyed the great diction, it really fit the tone of the book. I would actually like to have maybe two more chapters after this and have everything explained because I am curious.
